Abstract Submission Rules

You are invited to submit an abstract for technical session presentation at the 2016 AFS Fall Conference to be held at the DoubleTree Mission Valley in San Diego, CA.

All abstracts must be submitted online by the deadline, August 26, 2016If you have trouble with online submission, please contact the help desk at or the AFS Management Office at  Plenary presenters are invited by the Conference Chairs.  Only invited plenary presenters should indicate plenary presentation in the abstract submission system.


  • Format: All abstracts are limited to 250 words. Abstracts should be formatted  for conference proceedings.  Abstracts and papers must be non-commercial.
  • Abstract Type:  Please indicate if you are submitting for an oral presentation, student poster presentation or both.  Plenary speakers are invited to give presentations.
  • Authors and Affiliations:  Please input the contact information of the PRESENTING Author with email address as the Management Office will contact the presenting author with session information.  Do not identify author(s) or institutions in the abstract text.  Do not include degrees in the titles.  The affiliation should include only the department, institution, city, state and country.
  • Abstract Body:  Limited to 250 words.

Speaker’s bio should be included in the 3rd person format.  (Example:  Joe Smith graduated from the University of Tennessee with a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering in May 1991.  He began his career at the Tennessee Valley Authority in July 1991.)  Speaker’s bios are limited to 200 words.  Upon approval of presentation by the AFS Scientific Committee, presenting authors will be contacted to complete the speaker’s agreement.

Please indicate in the submission system if you were invited to give a presentation by a session moderator.

English is the official language of AFS Conferences.  All abstracts must be submitted in English.

The conference will feature three tracks with 6 sessions in each track.  Each session will include 3 or 4 – 30 minute presentations (25 minutes for presentation and 5 minutes Q & A.  Wednesday’s schedule will include one session of “Hot Topics”.  Hot topics are late breaking abstracts that are 10 minute presentations with 2 – 3 minutes of Q & A.

Presenting authors are required to submit their presentation for inclusion in the conference proceedings no later than October 7, 2016.  Presenting authors are encouraged to also submit papers  for inclusion in the conference proceedings.
