Speaker Guidelines

Presentation Guidelines

Instructions for Presenters:

  1. Abstracts:  Abstracts will be published in the program book.  Any changes or revisions to submitted abstracts must be made by Friday, September 8 at 5:00 pm – CDT. 
  2. Registration:  All presenting authors are required to register to confirm their attendance at the Conference on or before October 7, 2016.
  3. Oral Presentation:
    • Oral presentations of contributed papers are strictly limited to 30 minutes, which includes 25-minute presentation and 5-minute discussion.
    • Copyright Release Form: Please complete and send by email to afs@afssociety.com.  Copyright release forms will be emailed to presenters with confirmation.
    • An LCD projector and laptop computer will be provided in each conference room for computer-based PowerPoint presentations.  Presenters must use the laptop provided.
    • Any promotion of a commercial product/process or aggressive use of trade names or other forms of commercialism within the title, text or figures is not permitted in the technical sessions.
  4. Presentations:  The AFS Office will send password protected conference schedule with presentations linked to registered conference attendees the week prior to the conference.  Presentations must be received by the AFS Office no later than October 14.  Final Presentations may be sent in either ppt or pdf format.
  5. Manuscript:
    • Language – The manuscript must be in English
    • Margins – One-inch (1″) margin on all four (4) sides – top, bottom, right and left.  The text should be left justified only.
    • Paper Size – The original must be formatted for paper – 8.5 by 11 inches.
    • Spacing – The text should be single spaced.  Block paragraphs are preferred (no first-line indent; blank line between paragraphs).
    • Type Style – 12 point Times New Roman
    • Title – The title of the manuscript must be the same as the title which appears on the printed program.  The title should appear on the first page of the manuscript, at the top, centered in title case.  The author’s name(s), degree(s), and certification(s) should be directly underneath the title.  Presenting and/corresponding author will be underlined.
    • Content – outlines are NOT acceptable.  The text of the manuscript should cover the main points of the presentation that will be given and should be in manuscript format.
    • The manuscript should include the abstract.  It is recommended that authors specify the scope of the manuscript.
    • Illustrations:  Drawings, charts, or pictures that readily reproduce are acceptable.
    • References:  Literature citations are highly encouraged.
    • Products:  If specific products, equipment, etc. are included, please include the name and address of the manufacturer.
